Cooperation between Ukraine and Lithuania: development prospects and advantages

Seminar “Strengthening partnership with business for achieving the UN sustainable development goals” took place in Kherson on May 21, 2019. The purpose of holding the seminar was to support the development of small and medium-sized business in Ukraine, assist Ukrainian export within the Ukraine–European Union Association Agreement and disseminate experience and practices in socially responsible business following EU environmental standards. The Ukrainian League of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (ULIE) together with Lithuanian partners with support of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Ukraine and assistance of the Kherson Regional State Administration organized the event.

Representatives of regional authority, territorial bodies, local state institutions, Lithuanian delegation, ULIE, agrarian enterprises and public organizations participated in the seminar.

Rational use of natural resources, opportunities for reuse of water resources in Kherson region, the latest methods of agricultural production processing and other related themes were discussed during the event.

Water reuse, especially methods of water treatment and its influence on environment, caused lively discussion. Guests from Lithuania shared long-standing experience of their country in water treatment with representatives of Ukrainian enterprises and public organizations. They emphasized the importance of using innovative biotechnological products in the areas of water treatment, waste treatment and agriculture, which make possible to improve environment condition, improve soil fertility and the quality of organic products. It is impossible to produce healthy food without water of good quality.

Mentioned organic production were also discussed actively. The issue of the creation and development of agricultural production processing enterprises with further export of its products is relevant for agricultural Kherson region, and it is important for Europe to provide population of European countries with high quality organic food. Therefore, the cooperation of Ukrainian and Lithuanian entrepreneurs has a big future.
