A working meeting was held with British Ambassador to Ukraine

On November 6, 2020, within the framework of a working visit to the Kherson region of the British Ambassador to Ukraine, Ms. Melinda Simmons, was held the meeting for discussing issues of the political, economic and humanitarian situation in the Kherson region.

Great Britain is one of the leading trade and economic partners of the Kherson region. Thus, last year the regional trade turnover amounted to almost USD 13 million, and the export of goods increased by 3 times.

In the structure of export of services, the largest volumes were accounted for by transport and business services.

The import structure was based on services: related to financial activities; in the field of telecommunications, computer and information; business services.

In turn, the total volume of foreign direct investment (share capital) contributed by investment entities Great Britain to the Kherson region, as of December 31, 2019, amounted to USD 5.5 million, which is 2.2% of the total volume.

On October 8, 2020, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister of Great Britain Boris Johnson signed an Agreement on Political Cooperation, Free Trade and Strategic Partnership between Ukraine and Great Britain. Given the absence of a basic agreement on friendship, cooperation and partnership between Ukraine and Great Britain, the general political principles of bilateral cooperation and partnership enshrined in the new Agreement have great strategic and practical importance, including for the Kherson region.

Based on the results of the agreements reached during the meeting, in the near future it is planned to hold an online conference for representatives of Kherson and British business circles to discuss successful practices and work out ways to open new foreign economic and investment prospects.
